About the Plastics Club

"This whole process started with an iron, a plastic bag and some silicon paper."

"I recycle everything, the only things left in my bin are plastics"

EKKO started plastic recycling to meet a clear demand for local householders wishing to recycle plastic.

In order to co-ordinate this process and help householders to be able to identify the different sorts of plastic, the Plastic Recycling Club was established in which initially only certain cleaned plastics were brought to the factory.

The plastic club started as a part time project with 20 club members and has now grown to having 100's and 100's of active members with new members joining us weekly.

The members

All new members are given instructions on how  to bring the plastic to us for us to recycle.

In return for providing this service EKKO  the club members clean and sort their plastic prior to bringing it to the factory, as there are no cleaning facilities.

how we do it

The waste plastic is part sorted by the members and then further sorted, shredded and formed into sheets.

We manufacture articles such as key rings, coasters, fridge magnets, book covers, bookmarks and many more. See our goods

Since the plastic club started, EKKO have developed and manufactured a wide range of products that use very simple methods, EKKO can and do demonstrate this replicable methodology in a number of courses at the factory.

Further developments have included the provision of accompanying literature used for consultancy and courses, including this website.

EKKO is based at the Alternative Technology Centre in Hebden Bridge, and have established a simple process.
